How we score and rank AI courses

This page explains exactly how AI Course Finder scores and orders courses, including where money enters the picture and where it does not. If anything here does not match what you see in your results, we want to know.

The six questions

The quiz asks about your role, your current level, your goal, the time you can commit, your preferred learning style and your budget. Every one of the 108 courses in the catalogue is then scored against all six. Nothing is filtered out silently: courses that fit poorly rank low rather than disappearing.

How the fit score is built

Each course starts from an editorial base score reflecting depth, reputation and outcomes, assessed against published syllabi, provider documentation and learner feedback rather than marketing pages. Your answers then add or subtract points. A role match is worth a substantial bonus. A level mismatch costs points on a sliding scale, so a beginner is not sent to an advanced specialisation. Budget is enforced firmly: premium-priced courses are heavily penalised for people who did not ask for them. Time answers are matched against a real parse of each course's stated duration.

Where commission fits, and where it does not

We have confirmed affiliate relationships with two providers, DataCamp and Udemy. Those are the only providers that receive any commercial weighting, and that weighting is a bounded tiebreaker worth at most two points, against three to five points for a single genuine fit signal and an editorial base of nine to nineteen points.

In practice this means commission can reorder two courses that already fit you equally well. It cannot lift a worse-fitting course above a better-fitting one, it never changes the fit score displayed, and it is switched off entirely when you ask for free courses only. Every course carrying a tracking link is labelled as an affiliate link wherever it appears on the site.

How free courses are treated

Free courses face the same rubric as paid ones, and 28 of the 108 courses in the catalogue are free. To keep results useful for people weighing paid options with more structure and support, we cap how many free courses appear in the upper ranks unless you tell us you only want free courses. The fit score shown never changes: only the ordering does.

Keeping the catalogue current

Prices, durations and course contents change. We re-check the catalogue periodically and record changes in the changelog on the homepage. When a course changes materially, its score changes with it. If you spot something out of date, email hello@aicoursefinder.com.au.

What we do not do

We do not accept payment for placement, we do not publish sponsored reviews, and we do not claim to have personally completed every course in the catalogue. Where a review reflects our editorial assessment rather than first-hand completion, it is written as an assessment.
