OpenAI Academy launches free, beginner-friendly AI courses

OpenAI has opened its own learning hub, and unlike most of what the company ships, this one isn't aimed at developers. OpenAI Academy is a free, self-paced set of courses built for people who use ChatGPT at work but have never touched a line of code, and it comes with a completion certificate attached to each course.

If you're hoping for something that carries the weight of a professional certification on a resume, this isn't it, and OpenAI doesn't claim otherwise.

If you're already comfortable with prompting and are looking to go deeper into building with AI rather than just using it, this will feel thin. You'd get more out of a course built for developers, or one that goes further into agent architecture with actual code.

The practical difference is depth and structure. Google's program runs longer, includes more hands on scenario work, and now has an optional capstone project for people who want to build something real rather than just complete modules. OpenAI Academy is lighter and faster, which is either exactly what you want or not enough, depending on how much time you're willing to put in.
