DataCamp's AI & Data Analyst Track review: is it worth $25 a month?

★★★★☆ 4.5/5

Quick verdict

The strongest subscription option for working analysts, because the in-browser exercise format forces you to actually write SQL and Python instead of watching someone else do it. Worth the money if you'll use it three or more hours a week. Skip it if you want a structured credential with a fixed finish line, because the ongoing format never quite gives you one.

DataCamp's pitch is simple: no setup, no videos-then-quiz padding, just an editor in your browser and a stream of exercises that check your code as you write it. The AI & Data Analyst Track is its flagship path for the analyst audience, spanning SQL, Python, spreadsheet skills and, more recently, working with LLM APIs for analysis work. Our assessment below draws on the published syllabus, the platform's exercise format and learner feedback.

What it actually is

A curated sequence through DataCamp's larger library, roughly 400 courses deep, aimed at taking someone from spreadsheet-level analysis to comfortable scripting and AI-assisted workflows. Each unit is four to six minutes of concept, then exercises. The exercises are the product: you write real code against real datasets, the checker gives instant feedback, and nothing advances until your code runs.

What it does well

The format genuinely defeats passive learning, which is the failure mode of nearly every video course. You cannot nod along to DataCamp; either your query returns the right rows or it doesn't. For analysts specifically, the SQL and pandas material is well sequenced, and the newer AI-for-analysis content, prompting for data work, using LLM APIs on tabular data, is more current than most competitors' equivalents. The mobile app is also better than it has any right to be for keeping streaks alive on a commute.

Where it falls short

Three honest gripes. First, the guided format cuts both ways: exercises hand you so much scaffolding that the jump to a blank editor at work is bigger than your streak suggests. Budget real project time to close that gap. Second, the certificate carries little weight with employers compared with a university-branded credential; this is a skills subscription, not a CV line. Third, the ongoing subscription structure has no natural end, which suits continuous learners and quietly drains everyone else. If you're not using it weekly, cancel without guilt.

Pricing

Between $14 and $25 a month depending on plan and the near-permanent sales cycle, billed annually at the lower end. A month at full price costs less than one typical Udemy course at its inflated list price, so the real cost is your attention, not the fee.

Who it's for

Working analysts who learn by doing and can commit a few hours a week, career changers who need to build actual muscle memory in SQL and Python, and teams that want a shared floor of data skills. It ranked in our engine's top eight for the analyst profile on fit alone, which is consistent with what we found using it.

Who should skip it

Anyone chasing a credential that impresses a hiring manager (take a university specialization instead, our data analyst guide covers the options), and anyone who already scripts fluently, for whom the scaffolded exercises will feel slow.
