Hugging Face courses review: Agents, LLMs and free certificates

Agents course vs LLM course: which should you take?

What the Hugging Face courses teach

The LLM Course is the current name of the earlier NLP course. It covers language-model concepts and the Hugging Face ecosystem. Choose it when understanding the model and data workflow matters more than assembling an agent immediately.

The Agents Course covers agent concepts, frameworks and practical assignments. Its frameworks include smolagents, LlamaIndex and LangGraph. This makes it a useful option for comparing approaches before committing to one stack.

Are Hugging Face courses free? What about certificates?

Both learning paths are free. The Agents Course offers a fundamentals certificate after Unit 1, and a completion pathway involving Unit 1, a use-case assignment and the final challenge. These are course certificates. Do not assume that completing the LLM Course awards the same credential.

Free tuition does not make every project cost-free. Before using an external model or hosted service, check its access requirements and any usage charges. Keep the first project small enough to finish and explain.

Who should choose a different starting point?

If Python setup and debugging are unfamiliar, work on those skills first. A no-code workplace AI course will serve a different goal and may be a better first step. If you need a fixed learning schedule or assessed employer credential, compare those requirements before choosing a self-directed path.

For a developer who specifically needs LangChain and LangGraph, compare Eden Marco’s Udemy course. A paid course should earn its place through a curriculum and format you need, rather than the assumption that paid teaching must be better.

A practical way to study

1. Choose one outcome: understand a language-model workflow or build an agent.
2. Finish the introductory material before adding extra frameworks.
3. Extend one assignment with your own example and record what fails.
4. Keep a short project explanation covering inputs, outputs, evaluation and limitations.
